Director, Lead Counsel – Global Services (Americas) & Systems Integration (Global) at Nokia

Sharan currently serves as a Director, Lead Counsel for Nokia supporting Systems Integration globally and Global Services, Managed Services, and Mobile Networks in the Americas. Sharan partners with her internal clients in every transaction to develop the optimal strategy and approach for “getting to yes.” She acts both as a legal advisor and as a dedicated and trusted member of the business team, helping her clients navigate the real issues that impact their business.

Sharan has over 22 years’ experience in complex commercial transactions, negotiations, and litigation; dispute resolution and problem solving; mergers and acquisitions; complex commercial transaction management, negotiations, and enforcement (including managed services, outsourcing, state and local government transactions, and joint ventures); direct and indirect management of teams; and providing advice to senior management both as outside counsel and as in-house counsel. Woven throughout Sharan’s career are hallmarks reflecting her commitment to excellence in (1) achieving client and customer satisfaction (both internal and external), (2) providing practical and sound legal advice drawing from a truly global range of experiences (global both in subject matter and in geographical terms), (3) creative problem solving, (4) working with senior management and her team members to achieve business goals, including financial, legal, ethical, and good corporate citizenship, and (5) effective, efficient, and practical risk management.

During her years at Nokia, Sharan has served in many different roles, including lead corporate counsel for all litigation in the United States and Canada (NAR); lead corporate counsel supporting, at various times, the Services Business Group (with several direct reports), the Fixed Networks Group, and Global Customer Delivery (all global roles); sole corporate counsel supporting Strategic Industries and Enterprise in the United States and Canada (leading a team of contract managers negotiating with state and local governments and enterprise customers in the United States and Canada through direct and indirect sale channels); and lead counsel supporting Channels and Alliances in the United States and Canada.

Before joining Nokia, Sharan was in private practice, working for private firms, including Weil, Gotshal & Manges, Brown, McCarroll & Oaks, Hartline, and Shaw & Associates. During that time, she managed litigation and disputes with amounts in controversy involving hundreds of millions of dollars in controversy, and managed teams of lawyers, paralegals, and contract resources (one of which involved the hiring, training, management and supervision of approximately 100 resources). Her practice included both first and second chair trial work.

Sharan earned both a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and a Master of Laws in International and Comparative Laws from Duke University School of Law, graduating with High Honors, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics from the University of Houston, Summa Cum Laude, University Honors, and Honors in Major.
On a personal note, Sharan was the first person in her family to go to college, and she did so after her youngest son started Kindergarten. She loves spending time with her family, volunteering, country western dancing, and traveling. Sharan’s passion for excellence is reflected in all that she does.
