Patrice Childress has a special talent for storytelling. Her engaging style and easy presence make her an effective advocate for clients both in and out of the courtroom. Patrice’s strength is in distilling complex details into a simple and compelling story, and her clients enjoy the benefit of her innate attention to detail, great instincts, and sound legal judgment that she brings to every case. Her practice includes a diverse set of clients in the energy, legal, business, and real estate sectors, among others.

Patrice is also active in Beck Redden’s pro bono initiatives and regularly lends her time and talents to active service on behalf of organizations and causes that are important to her in the Houston community. She recently completed terms on the Board of Directors of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the Interface-Samaritan Counseling Centers, Inc.

Representative Experience

Represented a national commercial real estate brokerage firm against million dollar allegations of breach of fiduciary duty. Managed case discovery from the outset, including written discovery from parties and third-party subpoenas, fact witness and expert depositions, and various hearings with the arbitrator. Drafted key briefing and prepared research on relevant issues for presentation at final hearing. Delivered opening statement on behalf of client, presented key defense witnesses, and cross-examined all expert witnesses.

Represented and defended midstream master limited partnership against multi-billion dollar allegations of breach of pipeline partnership agreement. Assisted with management of electronic discovery, production and privilege review, motion practice regarding experts, and various trial preparation.

Represented and defended manufacturer of the blowout preventer in multi-district litigation (MDL) regarding the 2010 Deepwater Horizon incident. Managed large-scale discovery process, including personally coordinating and undertaking interviews of over one hundred client employees, massive collection and preservation of electronic and paper documents, and key involvement and oversight of document review and production. Critical communication role with client in-house counsel and information systems personnel. Key role in fast-tracked depositions of fact witnesses in multiple phases of MDL discovery.

Represented contractor and insurance company in complex remanded dispute regarding construction of propylene and fractionation plants. Responsible for working with and preparing expert witness regarding multi-million dollar segregated attorneys’ fee claim and ongoing discovery.

Represented petrochemical marketing company in dispute regarding fraudulent renewable energy credits. Managed discovery and developed complex damages model in conjunction with client and U.S. Attorneys’ Office.

Represented national commercial real estate brokerage firm in arbitration proceedings regarding multi-million dollar allegations of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract. Managed all case discovery, took all critical fact and expert witness depositions, and prepared defensive expert witness regarding complex damages model.

Represented and defended a hospital system against multi-million dollar antitrust violations. Key role in extensive document review, deposition and trial preparation.

Represented an insurance carrier and trucking company defending against personal injury claims. Presented expert witness and cross-examined plaintiff.
